Career Opportunities
Non-Malaysian students are allowed to work on a part-time basis during semester breaks, festive holidays, or more than seven days of holiday for a maximum of 20 hours a week. Non-Malaysian students are permitted to work in restaurants, petrol kiosks, mini markets, and hotels except in the following positions: cashier, singer, masseur, musician, Guest Relations Officer.
All students aspiring to work part-time must have a valid ‘Student Pass’.
Post-Study Work Rights:
The condition is not that ideal for international students after their studies to find a career in Malaysia. The first choice for Malaysian residents is when employment is revealed. Instead of waiting to find a position in Malaysia, it is advisable to search for a job in your own country. International students who are lucky to land a job in Malaysia on completing their studies; need to secure an ‘Employment Pass’ before they can start working.
VISA
All applications by foreign students for student passes are organized by Malaysian educational institutions. The Immigration Department in Malaysia performs the next step of the processing, acceptance, and issuance of student passes and visas. Educational institutions will send applications to the Head of the Pass & Permit Branch, Malaysia.
The prospective students will be informed by the Immigration Department in Malaysia by their educational institutions of their application status. These details shall be released within 7 days of the filing, irrespective of whether or not the request has been successful.
Documents Required For Students Pass in Malaysia
An offer letter or letter of acceptance from the educational institution to the student.
Student Pass Application Form (IMM14) in duplicate.
Two photocopies of the student's Passport / Travel Document.
Two passport-sized photographs of the student.
The educational institution is required to sign a ‘Personal Bond’ on behalf of the students. No fee is charged for the Personal Bond.
The Malaysian Immigration Department charges all students a fee of RM60 per year for student passes. Additionally, students who come from countries where entry visas into Malaysia are required will need to pay for an entry visa in Malaysia. The fees for entry visas vary.
